A Bit About Robyn…
In my mid twenties, tired of feeling like a cardboard cut-out with a job I didn’t like, I decided to find out who I really was. I embraced the concept of the mind-body-spirit connection and began exploring Yoga, Tai Chi, meditation and mindfulness. February of 1994 I followed my heart and started private singing lessons with the beautiful Julie Sherman. Julie’s encouragement, compassion and belief in my musical ability gave me the confidence boost I needed to pursue music as a career.
After dipping my toes in the pond of public performance singing my own compositions in amateur talent competitions and busking, I went on to full time study in Music & the Performing Arts. I studied Dramatic Arts & Music at QLD TAFE, Contemporary Music (Voice & Composition/Song Writing) at both the Northern Rivers Conservatorium Arts Centre Inc. and Southern Cross University.
In the year 2000 I had the opportunity to work for Arts Mid North Coast on the Therapeutic Youth Arts Project in the roles of Team Leader & Workshop Facilitator at residential Arts camps for disadvantaged youth. This experience sowed the seed that would eventually blossom into the Sing It Sister! Workshops.
In 2002 I gave birth to our first beautiful child and found myself 8 years later in that position so many women find themselves, putting the needs of others ahead of my own. I had neglected my creative Self Expression for too long and as the saying goes “If you don’t use it, you lose it”. I realised I needed to make myself a priority in my life not just for me but also for our young family. It was time to reconnect with my passion, my voice and my Self again.
I made time to study and attend trainings in Business & Leadership skills, personal development mind-body methodologies such as NLP and choir leading. I reconnected with my passion for songwriting and singing with far greater insight than before. My mentors included the legendary Transformational Speaker, author, coach and Social Entrepreneur Chris Howard, Jeff and Kane the Industry Rockstars and Brian Martin of Brian Martin Music.
I developed The ARTs Formula for Self Expression by combining what I learned from these trainings with my Performing Arts & Music experience and more recent personal study of vocal techniques and methodologies used in Bel Canto, Alexander Technique and the Buteyko Method.
These days I home educate the two amazingly wonderful children I share with my best friend and partner in life Shane, and run workshops to help people, especially women, reconnect with their unique voice and empower them in the art of Self Expression.
